Vilamendhoo Island Management Cautions Guests and Announces New Rules in the Park….

Vilamendhoo Island, Maldives – May 24, 2025

In an unexpected move this weekend, the management team at Vilamendhoo Island Resort issued a formal advisory to all current and incoming guests, announcing new safety protocols and park rules amid what they described as “a surge in disruptive guest behavior and unforeseen environmental incidents.”

According to the resort’s general manager, Lars Pettersson, the new regulations are aimed at preserving the island’s delicate ecosystem while maintaining a peaceful environment for all visitors.

“We’ve recently observed a rise in unauthorized excursions into protected reef areas, as well as increased littering within the island’s tropical park zone,” Pettersson said in a press release. “We love that our guests are adventurous, but we also have a responsibility to protect the island and ensure a tranquil experience for everyone.”

Among the new rules, which go into effect immediately, are:

No Entry Zones: Several areas of the marine park and forested lagoon trail are now off-limits due to coral rehabilitation efforts and nesting wildlife.

Noise Curfew: A noise curfew will be enforced from 9 PM to 7 AM, prohibiting loud music and gatherings in open public areas.

Environmental Watch Pass: Guests will now be required to complete a brief orientation on eco-friendly behavior before receiving access to certain parts of the island.

Strict Enforcement: Staff will increase patrols around the park area, and violators may be fined or banned from excursions.

While some vacationers welcomed the rules as a necessary step to protect the island’s natural beauty, others were less enthusiastic. One guest, who wished to remain anonymous, described the changes as “a bit over the top,” adding that, “I came here to relax, not be monitored like I’m in a nature boot camp.”

Still, the resort is standing by its decision. “Our priority is to keep Vilamendhoo a pristine escape for generations to come,” Pettersson added. “We believe these rules reflect the balance between luxury and responsibility.”

Guests are encouraged to review the updated code of conduct provided in their welcome packets or consult the front desk for more details.
