The 70-year-old singer, known for his powerful vocals and energetic stage presence, was reportedly involved in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunset Boulevard near Laurel Canyon around 10:45 PM.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports from the LAPD, Tornillo was driving a rented black SUV when another vehicle ran a red light and collided with his car at high speed. The impact caused Tornillo’s vehicle to spin out of control before crashing into a utility pole. Emergency responders were on the scene within minutes.
Tornillo was conscious at the time of rescue and was quickly transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he is currently in stable but serious condition. Hospital officials have confirmed that he suffered several broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, and a mild concussion. Despite the severity of the crash, doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery.
“We’re incredibly grateful that Mark is alive and receiving excellent care,” said Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffmann in a statement released early Saturday morning. “It was a terrifying situation, but we’re optimistic about his recovery. Our thoughts are with him and his family right now.”
The other driver, whose name has not been released, reportedly sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, but initial assessments suggest alcohol may have been a factor. The LAPD has stated that charges could be filed pending further toxicology reports.
Fans and fellow musicians have flooded social media with messages of support and well-wishes for Tornillo, who has fronted Accept since 2009, breathing new life into the band with albums like Blood of the Nations and Too Mean to Die. Known for his uncompromising vocal style and commitment to the spirit of classic metal, Tornillo has become a fan favorite over the years.

Accept had recently wrapped up a European leg of their “Symphonic Terror” tour and was scheduled to begin rehearsals for upcoming U.S. festival appearances this summer. Management has announced that all dates in June will be postponed until further notice, with an update expected later this week.
