May 3rd is Kings Dominion’s official birthday. Come commemorate the official 50th anniversary of the park’s original inauguration in 1975 with Kings Dominion. The park will celebrate by giving free commemorative buttons to visitors on May 3. As long as supplies last, each guest may only have one. Before opening at 11:00 a.m., the VCU Peppas will perform at the front gate to get things started. The Grand Bandstand will host the KOS band once again. Fifty years after performing at the park’s inaugural launch, this ensemble is returning to entertain visitors under the Eiffel Tower all day long.
Regarding the 1975 Opening of Kings Dominion: The project’s initial phase began in 1972. The park debuted as Lion Country Safari, a drive-through animal zoo featuring more than 200 species, in 1974. A third reproduction of the Eiffel Tower, the Carousel, Dodgem (bumper cars), the Shenandoah Lumber Company (a log flume ride), and the Racer 75 and Woodstock Express rollercoasters were among the park’s fifteen attractions when it opened as Kings Dominion in 1975.
