Carowinds Honors U.S. Military with Free Admission Over Memorial Day Weekend
Charlotte, NC – May 23, 2025 — In a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, Carowinds is offering free admission to all active duty military personnel, veterans, and their immediate family members during Memorial Day weekend, May 24–27, 2025. The gesture is part of the park’s ongoing commitment to honor the sacrifices made by military families and to celebrate the spirit of patriotism that defines this national holiday.
“Memorial Day is a time to remember and reflect on the brave individuals who gave everything for our country,” said Melanie Harper, Carowinds Director of Public Relations. “We are proud to welcome military families to our park as a small token of appreciation for their service and dedication.”
Free Admission with Military ID
To take advantage of the offer, eligible guests simply need to present a valid military ID at the park’s main entrance. The offer applies to active duty members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve, as well as military veterans. Immediate family members—including spouses and children—are also eligible for free admission when accompanied by a service member or veteran.
The program is made possible through a partnership with Military Ticket Services and the U.S. Department of Defense’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program.
A Weekend of Celebration and Remembrance
Carowinds has curated a lineup of special events and activities to commemorate Memorial Day. A patriotic flag-raising ceremony will kick off each morning at 9:45 a.m. in Celebration Plaza, featuring a performance by a local high school band and a presentation by a color guard from Fort Liberty.
Throughout the weekend, the park will host live music from military bands and veteran performers at Harmony Hall. Guests can also enjoy a fireworks display on Sunday night, beginning at 9:30 p.m., set to a moving soundtrack of American classics.
A commemorative wall near the North Gate will offer guests the opportunity to write notes of gratitude or remembrance for fallen service members. These notes will be preserved in a time capsule to be buried on Veterans Day later this year.
More Than Just Rides
While the offer is generous, Carowinds is going beyond just free admission. Several park vendors will be offering discounts for military families on food, beverages, and souvenirs. Chickie’s & Pete’s, Funnel Cake Emporium, and the Carowinds Gear Shop are among the participating locations.
Military families can also take advantage of a reserved VIP seating area for select shows, including Rockin’ Roadtrip and Country Crossroads. For those seeking a more relaxing experience, Carolina Harbor waterpark, also included with admission, will be open throughout the weekend.
Planning Your Visit
Park officials recommend arriving early, especially on Saturday and Sunday, when attendance is expected to be at its highest. Free parking will also be available for military personnel upon showing proper ID.
For added convenience, Carowinds has set up a special Military Hospitality Tent near the front gate, staffed with representatives to assist with tickets, park maps, and other amenities. The tent will also serve as a designated meeting area for military support organizations and veterans’ groups.
Community Support and Reactions
Local officials and community leaders have voiced their support for the initiative.
“Carowinds continues to be a leader not only in entertainment but also in civic engagement,” said Mayor Vi Lyles of Charlotte. “By honoring our military families in this way, they’re helping to foster a community of respect and remembrance.”
Veterans groups across the Carolinas have applauded the move. Paul Rodriguez, a retired U.S. Marine and current director of the Charlotte Veterans Alliance, called it “a meaningful gesture that reminds service members that their sacrifices are not forgotten.”
Social media has also lit up with praise for the initiative. One user posted: “So proud to live near a park that actually honors our military—not just with words but with real actions. Can’t wait to bring my family this weekend!”
Looking Ahead
While this Memorial Day weekend promotion is a limited-time offer, Carowinds officials hinted at similar events in the future. According to Harper, the park is exploring ways to expand its military appreciation programs year-round, including discounted season passes and special Veterans Day events.
“Every day is a good day to thank our troops,” said Harper. “This weekend is just the beginning.”
